NSUI protests against disqualified MLA Ravi Thakur

Around 55 activists belonging to the National Students Union of India (Congress-affiliated student union) today protested the Congress-disqualified MLA Ravi Thakur at Ashiana restaurant on the Ridge ground in Shimla.

On Tuesday Rajyasabha members Harish Mahajan, Mr Ravi Thakur, and Balveer Verma were addressing a press conference in Ashiyana restaurant when around 55 activists of NSUI during the blood donation camp at Ridge suddenly rushed towards Ashiyana restaurant and lodged a protest accusing the Ravi Thakur to ditch the Congress government in the state and joined BJP on Saturday.

For 15 minutes the situation remained tense as NSUI activists shouted slogans against the rebel former MLA Ravi Thakur.  To ensure the safety of Ravi Thakur he was removed from the spot and taken inside the restaurant to avoid further confrontation.

The police forces and CRPF jawan immediately controlled the situation and two groups were dispersed after the intervention of the media persons and police jawan.

Earlier to this Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also attended the blood donation camp of NSUI on the Ridge ground but after leaving the chief minister from the venue NSUI activists suddenly rushed towards Ashiyana Restaurant after noticing a rebel former MLA there.

According to the spokesperson of BJP Karan Nanda said that MLA is safe and after minor exchanges and slogans shouting the situation was brought under control. He said that the BJP would urge the party’s high command to not withdraw the CRPF security around the six disqualified MLAs until the election process is completed

He said that he called SP Shimla who promptly sent police forces to control the untoward incidents however BJP decided not to complain to ECI so far.

According to the Congress Shimla Rural committee leader Chandershakhair Sharma, it was the sudden reaction from the NSUI activists as they saw the rebel former MLA in the promises of Ashiana and they lodged immediate protest.
