No employees serving in Essential services to be deployed in election duty: ECI

 Election Commission of India today decided to notify several services as essential services and no staff employed in such services would be deployed on the Lok Sabha election duty.

Chief Electoral Officer Himachal Pradesh Manish Garg said here today that the Election Commission of India is taking several effective steps to ensure the participation of all voters in the upcoming elections.

He said that in this context, per Section 60 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, persons employed in essential services for the upcoming Lok Sabha.

Mr. Garg said that health department doctors, paramedical staff, ambulance services, fire services, drivers and conductors of Himachal Road Transport Corporation (which does not include local bus routes) working in Himachal Pradesh are included.

 Apart from this, Himachal Pradesh State Milk Federation and Milk Cooperative Societies provide milk supply services, local media representatives authorized by the Election Commission of India, pump operators and turners serving in Jal Shakti Department, electricians and linemen working in Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board and Prison staff are included under essential services.
