NH3 & NH505 closed for the winter season
Lahaul-Spiti district administration decided to withdraw the police post from NH-3 and NH 505 roads from today as both highways are not suitable and safe for the movement of vehicular traffic.
According to Administration NH-03 (Manali – Sarchu), the road was open for all types of vehicular movement from Darcha to Sarchu on September 18. The Vehicles were being allowed on Darcha to Sarchu Leh road (from 08:00 am to 11:00 am) and from Leh to Sarchu via Darcha road from( 11:00 am to 02:00 pm. Today no vehicles are allowed to pass
Lahaul-Spiti district police said that NH-505 (Sumdo Kaza- Gramphu) road was open for all types of vehicular movement on Saturday and it allowed all Vehicles to cross Koksar to Losar Kaza road (from 09:00 am to 12:30 pm and from Kaza Losar to Koksar from 10:00 am to 02:00 pm) however today no vehicles were allowed to pass on the high way.
The decision was taken to close the highway because of the mounting snowfall on the Kunzum pass and freezing temperatures not feasibly keep highways open for the rest of the winter season.
The district administration would keep the strategic highways off for the winter season. At Sarchu police check post has been removed from Sarchu from 16 September 2023 and police also decided to close the check post in Darcha today passengers are already advised to travel carefully beyond Darcha now.
According to the District Administration, Darcha Shinkula andvvSKTT (Sansaar – Kilaar-Tindi Tandi) were open. SKTT is restored to all types of vehicular movement up to Kahoo Nala.
The administration said that the general public is requested not to travel unnecessarily.
With the construction and commissioning of the Rohtang tunnel in 2021 District Headquarters Keylong remained open from Manali baring heavy snowfall.
Manali -Leh strategic road remained off for the next five months till the winter season continued and it was restored in the month of June 2024.
