Next Generation GST was the Prime Minister’s guarantee, which is being fulfilled: Jai Ram Thakur
In a press conference held in Shimla, Jai Ram Thakur stated that India is the world’s fastest-growing economy. This achievement is driven by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has ensured that India’s economic progress is reaching new heights despite adverse global conditions. The Prime Minister is continuously taking effective steps to provide relief to the countrymen. The Next Generation GST is also a historic step towards providing relief to the countrymen. On September 3, at the 56th meeting of the GST Council, two of the four GST slabs were abolished. 90% of products previously subject to the 28% GST were brought under the 18% GST bracket, while 99% of products previously subject to the 12% GST bracket were brought under the 5% GST bracket. 31 critical medicines used in the treatment of cancer, thalassemia, and other life-threatening diseases were excluded from the GST scope. Such a decision has never been taken before in the country’s history. Jai Ram Thakur said that Narendra Modi fulfilled our leaders’ dream of “One Nation, One Flag, One Constitution” by removing Article 370 and achieved the goal of one nation, one tax by implementing GST. The government also fulfills the dream of unifying India envisioned by the Iron Man, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, by ensuring uniformity in services and facilities as well as taxes.
Jai Ram Thakur said that essential items like milk, cheese, and bread have been completely excluded from the scope of GST. Only products that are harmful to public health have been placed under the 40% GST bracket. These include gutkha, pan masala, bidis, cigarettes, and highly carbonated beverages, which are not beneficial to public health. Furthermore, daily use items have been placed under the 5% GST bracket. To avoid inconvenience to people building homes, cement has been reduced from the 28% GST rate to the 18% GST rate. Such a significant decision to provide relief to the common citizen has never been taken before. Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the promise of GST relief from the Red Fort on Independence Day. Since this promise was made by the Prime Minister, there was a complete guarantee of its fulfillment. He also expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and the Union Finance Minister on behalf of the countrymen.
Addressing reporters, Jairam Thakur said that Narendra Modi initiated economic reforms as soon as he assumed power. He launched the Jan Dhan Yojana to connect the entire country with banking, opening over 55 crore accounts. There is no better example of financial inclusion in the world. He implemented Make in India in mission mode. He implemented demonetization to curb black money. He implemented GST in 2017 to implement the One Nation, One Tax. He established the National Payments Corporation Limited to promote digital payments, paving the way for UPI. Today, transactions through UPI are equal to the country’s GDP. Last August, transactions worth ₹20.8 lakh crore were processed through UPI. The Prime Minister assumed the reins of power under adverse circumstances, but he accomplished significant work to elevate the country’s economy to new heights. Inheriting double-digit inflation and sluggish economic growth were challenges. The Prime Minister overcame this challenge, and today the country’s economic growth rate is between 8 and 10 percent, and inflation is below 3 to 4 percent. Narendra Modi’s bold and decisive actions have proven that good intentions and hard work can achieve the desired success.
