Need for de-addiction centers to operate in accordance with established standards
A delegation from Sanjivani (A Group of NGOs), headed by the organization’s president, Mr. Mahinder Dharmani, met with the Honorable Governor. The delegation emphasized the need for de-addiction centers to operate in accordance with established standards, to further strengthen the narcotics wing of the police department, and to ensure that police operations are accountable and transparent to the public.
Keeping these issues in mind, a detailed report based on the key points and suggestions that emerged from the “Chitta Par Chot” workshop held on December 7th was submitted to the Honorable Governor, Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla. The delegation also clarified that permanent relief from this serious social problem can be achieved not only through event-based activities, but also through a comprehensive plan based on all aspects of Chitta de-addiction and the active cooperation of parents. The organization’s advisor, Shri Joginder Kanwar, Vice President, Shri Ratan Thakur, and General Secretary, Shri Naresh Sharma were also present in this delegation.
During the meeting, a memorandum was also submitted to the Honourable Governor by the delegation, in which the demand for withdrawal of cases registered against women in village Laghat of Gram Panchayat Barmana of District Bilaspur was prominently placed.
The delegation pointed out that actions taken against citizens, especially women, who speak out against drug abuse send a negative message to society. They urged that such cases be reviewed impartially and a fair decision be made, which would strengthen anti-drug campaigns and create a positive environment in society.
