Nature Halts a Heritage Journey: Kalka-Shimla Toy Train Suspended After Landslides

The iconic Kalka-Shimla railway, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a beloved symbol of Himachal’s charm, has come to a standstill after landslides triggered by heavy rainfall caused serious damage to the tracks. Train services on this scenic route have been suspended until September 5, as confirmed by a Railway Board notification.

The landslides struck between Koti and Kanoh stations, leaving behind debris and damaging multiple sections of the track. Railway teams are working tirelessly to clear the rubble and repair the damage, but officials warn that restoration will take time due to the extent of destruction.

This disruption follows a similar incident just a day earlier, when landslides near Sanwara Gate delayed trains for hours. Massive boulders had crashed onto the tracks, forcing emergency crews to step in and restore movement late into the night.

Known for its breathtaking views and nostalgic charm, the Kalka-Shimla line is not just a tourist attraction—it’s a lifeline for many locals. With monsoon-related disruptions becoming more frequent, officials are urging passengers to check train schedules before planning their travel.
