National Youth Day Workshop on TB Free Campaign organized at CSIR-IHBT

Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)- Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (IHBT) Palampur hosted a National Youth Day workshop on Prime Minister’s TB Free India Campaign on 13 January 2023.

Padma Shri Dr. Omesh Bharti, Epidemiologist Principal and State Institute of Health and Family Welfare, Shimla was the special guest of the function. In his speech, he informed the audience about the causes of Tuberculosis (TB) such as nutrition and immunity and the ills associated with it. Dr. Omesh Bharti also narrated some of his personal experiences, including supporting a TB survivor and overcoming social stigma associated with the disease. He also appreciated the efforts made by CSIR-IHBT to reduce malnutrition through development of nutrient rich food products. Along with this, Dr. Bharti also sought the help of the institute in eradicating TB from the society.

Earlier, Dr. Rajesh Kumar Sood, Epidemiologist, District TB Officer, Kangra delivered a comprehensive lecture on “Community Support to TB Patient under Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan”. He informed that “Nikshay 2.0” is a campaign to mobilize people suffering from Tuberculosis (TB) and provide community support. He highlighted the effect of malnutrition, tobacco use, immunity and co-morbidities on TB disease. He also mentioned the psychological difficulties faced by patients as a result of social misconceptions associated with such diseases.

The program was coordinated by Dr. Yogendra S. Padwad, Principal Scientist, CSIR-IHBT. The program was attended by scientists, technical staff and fellows of the institute.
