Naresh Chauhan questions BJP MPs and leaders on whether they back or oppose ending revenue deficit grant for Himachal

Naresh Chauhan, the Chief Minister’s principal media advisor, has asked the state’s BJP MPs and leaders whether they support or oppose the discontinuation of the revenue deficit grant. He said they should clarify their position before the state, as its discontinuation would hinder the state’s development. He stated that the discontinuation of the revenue deficit grant is a grave injustice to the hill states.
Addressing a press conference at the state Congress headquarters, Rajiv Bhawan, today, Naresh Chauhan said that since independence, considering the geographical conditions of the state, the then Finance Commission had established a system of providing revenue deficit grants to accelerate the development of such hill states, which the Finance Commission determined and increased. He said that this money was spent on the state’s development. He said that now its closure will result in a loss of 40 to 50 thousand crore rupees to the state.
Naresh Chauhan stated that this fight isn’t just the government’s; everyone must come forward to protect the state’s interests. He added that Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu strongly presented the state’s case before the 16th Finance Commission. The state had hoped for an increase in this grant this time. He added that the facts and figures MP Anurag Thakur is presenting to the media about the state are completely misleading. He stated that every year, the central government collects all the tax money in the form of GST, and 40 percent of that amount is released to the states. Therefore, his statements are purely politically motivated.
Naresh Chauhan accused the former BJP government of its actions, claiming that the state’s financial situation is currently in crisis. The Congress government inherited liabilities of over 12,000 crore rupees and debts of over 75,000 crore rupees. He said this is not the time for politics or blaming anyone. He said this is the time to protect the state’s rights. He said he is also urging the BJP to come together and discuss this issue with the central government to help the state overcome this crisis and support the state government in restoring the revenue deficit grant.
