Jairam Thakur said that 91 persons from all over the country were given this award by the Government of India for their excellent work and Nekram Sharma was the only person from Himachal who received Padma Shri.

It is a matter of great pride that Nek Ram Sharma has been honored with the Padma Shri award by the Government of India for growing the traditional crops of Himachal in a natural way.
On this occasion, BJP State President and MP Suresh Kashyap congratulated Nekram Sharma and said that the manner in which he has revived the nine grain traditional cropping system in Himachal is inspiring. Nekram Sharma grows wheat, maize, millet, barley, vegetables and mango under natural farming.
91 people have received Padma Shri in the whole country and it is a matter of pride for Himachal to get a Padma Shri from Himachal.
Through natural farming, water usage is cut by 50% and the land’s energy is increased.
Nekram Sharma is promoting this farming in other states by producing local indigenous seeds and distributing them free of cost to more than 10000 farmers in 6 states.
