Mother and daughter died a painful death after flowing into Paradi drain
A very heart-rending incident has occurred in Paradi village of Darbhog Panchayat of Junga Tehsil when a mother and daughter were swept away in a drain. A mountain of trouble has fallen on the house of a poor farmer Ram Kishan of this village. Let us tell you that Ram Kishan’s wife Leela Devi (40) and daughter Sheelat (10) had crossed the drain to guard the cabbage crop in the field. Like every day, while returning home on the evening of 14 August, she was crossing the drain and coming home when at around 1.30 pm, suddenly a strong flood water came from above and both of them were swept away in the surging water. When both mother and daughter did not return home, at around 4.30 pm the family members started searching with the help of the villagers. The bodies of both were found in the ravine below, about half a kilometer away from the field. The daughter’s head was resting on the mother’s back, as if even after death the mother did not leave the support of her pallu. Seeing this scene every eye in the village became moist. Sheetal is a student of class six.
A case has been registered in this regard at the police station Dhali and both the bodies have been taken into custody and their post-mortem has been done at IGMC and handed over to the relatives. Their cremation was done in their village yesterday.
Darbhog Panchayat Pradhan Tanu alias Tara Bhardwaj said that this heart-rending incident has brought mourning in the entire area. She said that Ram Kishan’s health is also not good. He has no other means of income apart from farming. Ram Kishan has only two daughters at home. Shilat was the youngest daughter who was swept away in the drain. Pradhan said that the administration has provided immediate relief of Rs. 20,000 each to the affected families.
