Manipur violence shameful:  Shanta seeks capital punishment for Rape, Questions Modi Govt Amrit Utsav 

Terming the prolonged violence in the BJP-ruled State of Manipur Shameful Former BJP stalwarts Shanta Kumar said that rape incidents against women in Manipur and other parts of the country should be dealt with severe capital punishment, he questioned Modi government’s celebration of Amrit Kal stating that what kind of ‘Amrit Utsav’ (Nectar festival ) is this.

Former Chief Minister and Union minister Shanta Kumar went on his Facebook post at Palampur of Kangra district yesterday stating that incidents like Manipur and other of the world’s largest democracy are very shameful.  

” The disappearance of 13 lakh girls and women in the country in three years is even more shameful and it is most shameful that all these incidents are not even considered in the Parliament of this largest democracy of the world. ” the former union minister said in his chaste Hindi comment.

Not sparing the BJP government of Narendra Modi he said that the whole country is shedding tears, leaders are fighting. Baking the bread of votes. “May God bless everyone,” he comments in his sarcastic way.

 Referring to Manipur violence and especially the parading of women naked and raping them Shanta Kumar states in the post ” Never thought that India’s democracy would fall to this extent.  What kind of nectar festival(Amrit Utsav is being celebrated.”

The former Union minister also appealed to Protesting MPs in both houses that Parliament should rise above the party walls and have a serious long discussion on this very serious issue. 

Terming recent Manipur incidents stigma on the face of the country he sought that change in the deterrent laws to deal with cases of crime against women should decide in a special fast-track court in three months time frame and there should be severe capital punishment for rapes in the country.

Mr Shanta Kumar was critical of BJP Government at the center and didn’t spare it when no other leader of party dare to speak against the misrule and failure of law and order in Manipur. 

Former union minister after retirement from active politics has authored a book accusing his former saffron party of digressing the party’s inherited value system and compromising on corruption.
