Mandi’s NCC Cadet Dumesh Kumari Scales 18,000 ft Summit, Hoists National Flag

Mandi’s pride, NCC Cadet Dumesh Kumari of Vallabh Government College, has etched her name in history by successfully climbing the Mount B.C. Roy summit (18,000 ft) and unfurling the national flag at the peak.

A Lone Representative

Dumesh achieved this feat while completing the prestigious Advance Mountaineering Course at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), Darjeeling. She was the only participant from Himachal Pradesh, making her accomplishment even more remarkable.

A Hero’s Welcome

On returning to her college, Dumesh was greeted with warmth and applause. Principal Dr. Sanjiv Kumar felicitated her, praising the NCC cadets for bringing glory to the institution and the state. He highlighted how cadets from Vallabh College have represented India with distinction in Youth Exchange Programme camps across Russia, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, and Bhutan.

Training Beyond Limits

Flying Officer Dr. Chaman Lal Kranti, who leads the NCC Air Wing in Mandi, explained that the Advance Mountaineering Course is more than just climbing. It builds physical and mental endurance, sharpens leadership qualities, enhances disaster management skills, and nurtures cadets’ interest in the Indian Armed Forces and adventure activities.

From Gohar to Glory

Hailing from the Gohar region of Mandi district, Dumesh is currently a third-year B.A. student. Her achievement stands as an inspiration for young cadets and students across Himachal, proving that determination and courage can take you to the highest peaks—literally.
