Major share of Rs 4500 Cr relief package announced by Congress is with the help of Centre: Jai Ram Thakur

The major share of Rs 4500 Crore announced by Chief Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Government to be born by the proceeds from central government schemes, former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur stated in a press conference here today.

He said that the state witnessed unprecedented devastation in the country during monsoon season recently and the BJP as opposition has played a constructive role in it as its MLA helped the victim in relief and rescue operations at ground zero.

Mr Thakur said that the BJP tried to rise above political considerations to help the needy in trendy however CM indulged in politics and given politically motivated statements since the time of natural calamity.

Referring to the information taken by the BJP on the provision of funds  Rs 4500 Cr relief package recently he said that Rs 2000 Cr to be provided by the state from a centrally funded scheme.

BJP leader said that information taken by the BJP through  RTI revealed that Rs 1000 Cr is to be spent by MNRAGA which is demand demand-driven scheme and mainly provides assistance by the centre.

He said that 6500 houses allocated by PM Awas schemes and  Rs 100 Cr to be provided by the central. Similarly, Rs 361 Cr state Disaster Relief Funds and Rs 315 Cr delayed grant in aid were already funded by the centre.

The former Chief Minister said that the state already allocated 200 Cr for NDRF as part of this package. He also said that the package announced by the Sukhu Government also covers funds paid by people tune to Rs 225 Cr in the  State Apada Rahat Kosh is also mentioned as the part of relief package.

He said that Money is pending for development with DCs also to be made part of the Package. 

Mr Sukhu said that the state government only allocated Rs 200 Cr as a Defined Component Plan and therefore  Rs 2000 Cr contribution was mainly relied on by the central government.

He said that the government should not provide discretionary funds to MLA and MP for the relief package so that they could spend it on their priority scheme.

He said that RTI revealed that the Rs 4500 cr package announced by the state government is sheer lies as it was drawn from central funds.

He demanded that the Chief minister who was going to distribute cheques of relief to the next of kin who died in the natural calamities and those who lost livestock houses and other properties should thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for providing liberal assistance to the People.

Mr Thakur said that the government has ordered to prepare the list of affected beneficiaries, including real beneficiaries.

Instead of making a list of affected on party lines government and officers should ensure that Those who had lost a member of their family cows and house and shelter over them should be beneficiary of package.” he added.

‘The Cong cadre right from CM to block level workers are repeatedly accusing the centre of not providing assistance and Congress also repeated the same allegations during the recent monsoon session of the state assembly.” Leader of Opposition alleged.

Terming the state government’s approach in times of crisis unresponsive he said that instead of appealing for cooperation they accused the centre of not assisting however Centre government had full cooperation to provide relief for affected people till now

He said that in particular Balh Vidhan Sabha a village was discriminated against. The entire building was submerged in the flood sand.

He said that Covid warriors were not paid a salary for months. An employee committed suicide. A fired IGMC employee was forced to sit on Dharna along with a kid. He said 10,000 outsources were fired out by the Congress rule including 2000 of the IPH department.

He accused the Sukhu Government of distributing tents under a scam to Congress-related workers without following procurement rules.

He said that the Congress government is burdening people in the state to indulge in spendthrift as Cement prices have increased by four times in the last ten months. Crashers are not working and the pace of development is standstill
