Maa Shyamala Welfare Society distributed nutritious food to tuberculosis patients

On Friday, the non-governmental organization Maa Shyamala Welfare Society distributed nutrition kits to eight tuberculosis (TB) patients at DDU Zonal Hospital Shimla. These included pulses, cereals, ghee and other essential food items. This program was organized under the Nikshay Mitra Abhiyan of the Prime Minister’s TB Free India Campaign.
While presiding over the programme, CMO Shimla Dr Yashpal Ranta reiterated the government’s commitment towards tuberculosis elimination and said that balanced nutrition plays an important role in the treatment of TB patients. He appreciated the noble work done by Maa Shyamal Welfare Society and appealed to other social organisations to participate in such efforts.
Dr. Yashpal Ranta said that this effort by Maa Shyamala Welfare Society to strengthen community participation under the National TB Eradication Program is highly commendable.
Society official Kusum Sadrate said that the organization has adopted 60 TB patients of Shimla city, which includes patients of PHC Annadale, Sanjauli and DDU Zonal Hospital, Shimla. She said that Maa Shyamala Welfare Society is not only contributing to TB eradication, but is also playing an active role in other social service works, such as providing assistance to cancer patients, tree plantation campaign, promotion of yoga, organizing blood donation camps, providing wheelchairs to palliative care patients.
On this occasion, District TB Officer Dr. Vineet Kumar, Senior TB Supervisor Anmolraj Koondel, Health Department staff members, besides the society officials Anita Sharma, Rama Thakur, Sunil Dhar, Jagjit Kaur and other officials were present.
