The festival of Lohri was celebrated with enthusiasm and tradition at Lingayas Vidyapeeth (Deemed-to-be University). Which is a symbol of happiness and cultural prosperity. The echoes of laughter, the warmth of the bonfire, and the rhythmic strains of traditional music filled the air. On this occasion, according to the ancient tradition, Lohri was burnt and sesame and peanuts, etc. were added to it and traditional songs were sung. On this occasion, Pro-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) M.K. Soni, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Kapoor, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) P.K. Sharma, Registrar Prem Kumar Salwan, and Dean Academics Professor (Dr.) Seema Bushra was especially present.
Throwing light on the history of Lohri, Registrar Prem Kumar Salwan said that during the Akbar period, daughters-in-law were kidnapped and sold by soldiers in Punjab province. Dulla Bhatti, who lived in the rural areas of Punjab, opposed Akbar’s soldiers. Dulla Bhatti used to rescue daughters-in-law from Akbar’s soldiers and marry them by giving generous dowry, hence after marriage, gifts are given to the daughter on the first Lohri. On this occasion, all the staff members danced a lot to Punjabi folk songs Aaj Naach Lo Saare Miljul Ke, Reh Na Jaave Koi Saathi and Sundar Mundariye Tera Ki Vichara, Dulla Bhatti Wala etc.
