Lions Club Fights Hunger with Heart: Serves 500 Meals at Kamla Nehru Hospital
Local chapter continues its mission to combat food insecurity, one meal at a time
In a heartfelt effort to tackle hunger and bring comfort to those in need, the Lions Club International today served nutritious meals to 500 patients, attendants, and visitors at Kamla Nehru Hospital. The initiative, part of the club’s ongoing “Food for Hunger” projects, aims to ensure no one in the community goes to bed on an empty stomach.
More Than Just a Meal
Lion Man Mohan Verma, President of the local Lions Club chapter, emphasized that their work goes beyond filling stomachs. “Food is a basic right, not a privilege,” he said. “By providing nourishment, we’re also offering hope and strength to families facing tough times. A simple meal can make all the difference when someone is struggling.”
This isn’t the club’s first effort to address food insecurity. Earlier projects included organizing langars (community kitchens) at prominent hospitals like IGMC and KNH. Today’s event at Kamla Nehru Hospital continued that legacy, with volunteers personally serving hot, wholesome food to patients and their weary caregivers.
Hands That Serve, Hearts That Care
The serving line was bustling with dedication as Lions Club members—including Project Chairperson Lion O.P. Mehta, Director Lion D.K. Chauhan, Secretary Lion M.K. Sharma, and volunteers like Lion Kapil Sood and Lion Daleep Kumar—handed out meals with smiles and kind words.
“Many of these families are already burdened with medical expenses. The least we can do is ensure they don’t worry about their next meal,” shared Lion P.S. Panwar, as he packed food parcels for attendees.
Why It Matters
Food insecurity remains a pressing issue, even in urban areas. For hospitalized patients and their families, the stress of illness is often compounded by financial strain. Initiatives like these not only address immediate hunger but also reinforce community solidarity.
“No one should have to choose between medicine and meals,” added Lion Verma. “As long as there’s need, we’ll keep showing up.”
What’s Next?
The Lions Club plans to expand its hunger relief projects, with more hospital langars and community kitchens in the pipeline. Residents who wish to contribute or volunteer can reach out to the local chapter for details.
“Change begins with action,” remarked a grateful hospital visitor, plate in hand. “Today, that action tasted like kindness.”
