Left organizations of Himachal to protest against sexual harassment of women wrestlers on May 18

Himachal Pradesh state committees of CITU, Himachal Kisan Sabha, Janwadi Mahila Samiti, DYFI, SFI and Dalit Shoshon Mukti Manch have protested against the sexual harassment by some officials in the country’s wrestling federation or wrestling federation and the arrogant attitude of the BJP government at the Centre. And in support of the women wrestlers of our country, it has been decided to demonstrate in the district headquarters of Himachal Pradesh on 18 May 2023.

CITU State President Vijender Mehra, General Secretary Prem Gautam, Himachal Kisan Sabha President Dr. Kuldeep Singh Tanwar, Secretary Hotam Saunkhala, Women Committee President Dr. Reena Tanwar, Secretary Falma Chauhan, DYFI President Suresh Sarwal, Secretary Chandrakant Verma, SFI President Raman Tharta, Secretary Amit Thakur Dalit Exploitation Free Forum Convenor Jagat Ram and Co-Convenor Ashish Kumar have said that our women wrestlers, including international award winners, are protesting against atrocities, sexual harassment and repression by some officials in the Wrestling Federation of India or Wrestling Federation of India. The struggle and the arrogant attitude of the BJP government at the Center has attracted the attention of the entire country. Realizing the seriousness of this matter, nationwide demonstrations have been organized by various organizations of the people of the country.

Reiterating full support and solidarity with the struggle of women wrestlers, it has been decided to organize demonstrations in all district headquarters of Himachal Pradesh on May 18, 2023 as part of the call for countrywide joint mobilization and protest programmes, he added. These protest programs will be in the form of dharnas, processions, candle marches, demonstrations etc. Through these demonstrations, the arrogant attitude and protection of the BJP government against the torture and sexual harassment of the women wrestlers concerned will be exposed, as well as the wrestling federation’s posts against the culprits, including an MP from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party at the Center. Strict punitive action will be demanded immediately including removal. He has expressed surprise over the silence of the Central Government and the Prime Minister on this whole matter. He said that this shows the anti-women mindset of the Modi government. He said that in this case, Modi Government, which has been making claims of saving daughter, educating women, women empowerment and upliftment of women, has been completely exposed in this matter. Due to this, the face of Modi government and its loved ones has been completely exposed. He has warned that if women wrestlers do not get justice and strict action is not taken against their harassment, exploitation, torture and the culprits are not punished severely, then the public will move towards big mobilization.
