Lavi Fair 2024: Cultural Festivities, Sports, and Community Spirit to Shine

The much-anticipated International Lavi Fair is set to bring four days of vibrant cultural events, sports competitions, and community celebrations to Rampur from November 11 to November 14, 2024. Preparations for the historic fair were discussed in a meeting led by Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap, where organizers laid out plans to ensure the event is memorable for all attendees.

The fair will be hosted at the PG College ground, while the cultural performances will take place at Padam Senior Secondary School Rampur ground, offering a perfect setting for the diverse activities lined up.

Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shiv Pratap Shukla, will grace the opening ceremony as the chief guest on November 11, with Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu closing the celebrations on November 14.

Nand Lal, Chairman of the Seventh Finance Commission, urged the community to protect the Lavi Fair’s rich heritage, emphasizing the importance of ensuring transparency throughout the planning and execution of the event. Deputy Commissioner Kashyap assured that the fair will once again be a joyous and environmentally conscious celebration, with a “zero garbage” initiative in place. A wide array of performers, ranging from local talent to national and international artists, will light up the stage during the fair’s evening events.

Organizers also confirmed that this year, the fair will conclude on November 30, with all stalls and temporary setups removed by that date.

Half Marathon to Champion Social Causes

In keeping with tradition, the fair will host a half marathon that will raise awareness about pressing issues such as drug abuse, cleanliness, and environmental preservation. The marathon will be open to participants of all ages, from students to senior citizens.

NCC Cadets to Help with Traffic Management

The fair’s traffic management will be supported by NCC cadets from PG College Rampur, with only cadets aged 18 and above participating. They will be compensated for their services, and the college principal has been asked to submit a list of cadets to the SDM office.

Four Evenings of Cultural Splendor

The Lavi Fair will feature four dazzling cultural evenings, each highlighting unique aspects of the region’s heritage. The festivities will begin with “Bushahr Evening” on November 11, followed by “MC Evening” on November 12, and the grand “Lavi Evening” on November 13 and 14.

Horse Exhibition and Sports Events Highlight Local Traditions

The Animal Husbandry Department will organize a horse exhibition from November 4 to 6, attracting farmers from Kinnaur, Lahaul Spiti, and Shimla. On the sports front, the fair will feature inter-state volleyball and badminton competitions, with plans to introduce more indoor sports in future editions of the fair.

Planning and Responsibilities for a Smooth Event

A variety of state government departments, corporations, and self-help groups will come together to showcase exhibitions at the fair. The SDM office, MC, and BDO office will handle stage and seating arrangements, while labor requirements will be managed by Ex-en NH, Ex-en B&R, and BDO Rampur.

Plot allocation for stalls will be overseen by a committee, while MC Rampur will handle the allocation of domes, rides, and exhibition canopies. The Water Power Department will ensure continuous water supply, and the Electricity Board and PWD’s electrical wing will manage power. HRTC Rampur will coordinate transportation, while CDPO Rampur will manage traffic and parking. Cleanliness across the fairground will be the responsibility of the Municipal Council of Rampur, and the medical superintendent of Khaneri Hospital will provide health services at the event.

Stage decoration, sound and light systems, and fire safety arrangements will be overseen by the SDM office, with the audition committee responsible for selecting performers from local, national, and international talent. Law and order during the fair will be maintained by the police.

Community Leaders and Officials Join Forces

The meeting to finalize preparations was attended by Zila Parishad Chairperson Chandra Prabha Negi, Municipal Council Chairperson Muskan Negi, Zila Parishad members Trilok Bhaluni and Vimla Sharma, BDC Chairman Ashish Kayath, along with senior officials from various departments and members of the local trade association.

With a perfect blend of cultural heritage, sportsmanship, and community participation, this year’s Lavi Fair promises to be a memorable celebration for all.
