Karcham Assam Regiment salutes women mountaineers
An 11 member women mountaineering team of above 50 years of age, who set out to conquer the skyscraper peaks and 37 passes of Trans Himalaya, was accorded a grand welcome by the soldiers of 4- Assam Regiment of Tri Peak Brigade of Kinnaur district on reaching Karchham in Kinnaur district today. During this, India’s first woman Mount Everest winner Bichendri Pal, who was leading the mountaineering team, and all the mountaineers involved in his team were honored by Brigadier Pradeep Kumar Mehta and his wife by presenting the traditional Kinnauri cap and memento.
Welcoming the members of the mountaineering team, Brigadier Pradeep Kumar Mehta said that the spirit of these women who have crossed 50 years of age teaches us all that if we set our heart to do some work, then the destination is not far. Congratulating all the mountaineering women, he said that these women have proved that age does not matter if they are determined to do any work and despite difficult challenges and every step is risky The task can be completed.
During this, Bichendri Pal, who is leading the team, said that hard work and honesty are very necessary to move ahead in life. She said that she has reached this stage by imbibing it in her life. She said that the main objective of this campaign is to make the common people aware about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Fit India Mission and women empowerment, as well as to make people aware about the various evils spread in the society.
She also gave a message to the youth that the goal should be achieved.
