Kalka-Shimla Toy Train Services Disrupted Due to Landslides After Heavy Rains
The scenic Kalka-Shimla toy train route, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, faced major disruptions today after heavy rainfall triggered landslides at two different locations. The iconic narrow-gauge railway, popular among tourists and locals alike, saw its services thrown into chaos as debris blocked the tracks.
The first landslide occurred near the historic Koti Tunnel No. 10 (between km 16/18-19), while the second hit the stretch between Koti and Sanwara stations (km 25/5-6). As a precaution, train services were halted, leaving passengers stranded. The Shimla-bound train (52457) was stopped at Koti Station, while another train (52452) was held at Gumman Station.
With clearance operations underway, officials estimate delays of up to three hours for all affected trains. Railway teams are working round the clock to restore normalcy, but challenging terrain and continuous rain have slowed progress.
Authorities have advised passengers to check for updates before traveling and requested cooperation during the cleanup. For many, the disruption dampened travel plans, but the safety of passengers remains the top priority.
“We understand the inconvenience caused and appreciate everyone’s patience,” said a railway spokesperson. “Our teams are doing their best to resume services safely at the earliest.”
Tourists hoping to enjoy the lush green valleys and misty hills via the toy train will have to wait a little longer as nature reminds everyone of its unpredictable power.
