Justice for Vimal Negi: CPI(M) Demands Judicial Probe, Questions CBI’s Credibility
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has written an impassioned plea to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, expressing deep anguish over the tragic death of Vimal Negi and the growing politicization of the case. Instead of handing over the investigation to the CBI, the party has demanded a judicial inquiry to ensure an impartial and transparent process.
In a strongly-worded letter, Sanjay Chauhan, Secretary of CPI(M)’s Himachal unit, voiced the party’s concerns, stating, “Justice for Vimal Negi cannot be left to an agency with a questionable track record in sensitive cases. The truth must come out without political interference.” While acknowledging the family’s demand for a CBI probe, Chauhan pointed to past failures—like the botched investigations into the deaths of Hoshiar Singh and Gudiya—as reasons to distrust the agency.
A System Rotten with Corruption?
The letter didn’t mince words in exposing what it called “institutionalized corruption” under successive governments. Chauhan highlighted shocking allegations, including:
- The 2022 Police Recruitment Scam, where over 300 candidates in Kangra alone allegedly bought leaked exam papers for ₹2 lakh each.
- A Land Grab Near the Vidhan Sabha, involving 35 bighas of Himalayan Brahmo Samaj’s land, with accusations against former DGP Sanjay Kundu.
- Recent Judicial Scandals, including corruption allegations against a Delhi High Court judge and a CBI court judge, raising doubts about accountability mechanisms.
“When even judges and top officers are under suspicion, how can the common man trust the system?” Chauhan asked.
“Gudiya’s Voice Still Echoes in the Forests”
The letter took an emotional turn as Chauhan invoked the memory of Gudiya, a young girl whose case remains unresolved. “Her voice still echoes through the forests, demanding justice,” he wrote, warning that Vimal Negi’s case must not meet the same fate.
A Call for Immediate Action
The CPI(M) has formed a committee to investigate high-profile corruption cases in the state and urged the CM to launch a “no-holds-barred campaign” against corrupt officials, “regardless of their political connections.”
Chauhan’s final warning was stark: “If the government fails to act, public trust will crumble. The truth cannot be buried again.”
The party has demanded:
✔ Arrest of all individuals named by Negi’s family
✔ Judicial oversight to prevent evidence tampering
✔ A wider crackdown on corruption in the administration
