Junga’s traditional Dussehra fair begins with the burning of Lanka.

The district-level Dussehra fair in Junga, adjacent to the capital, began on Thursday evening with the burning of Lanka. As per tradition, a procession of Raghunath’s palanquin accompanied by musical instruments was taken out from the palace, led by Khush Vikram Sen, the ruler of the then Keonthal state, in which hundreds of people from the area participated. After performing puja, King Khush Vikram Sen set fire to the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna, and Meghnad, thus burning Lanka. Hundreds of people enjoyed this spectacle. There is also a popular belief that witnessing the burning of Lanka averts the wrath of the planet Saturn. Prior to this, the fair officer and the Tehsildar of Junga honored King Khush Vikram Sen by presenting him with a memento.
He said that efforts have been made to make the district level fair attractive. Apart from children and local artists, Star Night is also being organized in this three day fair. Famous artists of the state have been invited in Star Night. State level Kabaddi competition has been organized on 3rd and 4th October in which the winning team will be given a cash prize of Rs. 31 thousand and the runner up team will be given Rs. 21 thousand.
