Jairam Thakur Slams Himachal Govt Over Vimal Negi Case: Justice Being Undermined

In a fiery press conference held in Shimla, former Chief Minister and current Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur launched a sharp critique of the Congress-led Himachal Pradesh government, accusing it of obstructing justice in the high-profile Vimal Negi case.

Thakur expressed deep concern over what he described as deliberate attempts to derail the CBI investigation. He pointed fingers at a Superintendent of Police (SP) who, despite being on leave, filed a legal appeal challenging the High Court’s decision to hand the case over to the CBI—an action that contradicts the Chief Minister’s earlier public assurance of not opposing the court’s order.

“Who gave this officer the green light to act against the court’s decision? Is he above the law, the government, and even the judiciary?” Thakur questioned, suggesting that the officer may be operating under political protection.

He further alleged that the same officer held a press conference to make unfounded accusations against senior officials, BJP leaders, and even a sitting MLA. “Why didn’t the Chief Minister take action then? Why the silence now?” he asked, implying that the officer’s actions could be aimed at influencing the investigation and tampering with evidence.

Thakur didn’t stop there. He also targeted the Congress government over the Pekhwala Solar Plant project, calling it “a monument of corruption.” He claimed that those involved are now panicking as the CBI closes in. “Corrupt officials are destroying evidence while the Chief Minister looks the other way,” he said.

Raising further doubts, Thakur demanded an inquiry into how an officer on leave could mislead the court and act on behalf of the Shimla district, despite not holding the official charge.

In a strong message to the Chief Minister, Thakur urged him to stop shielding tainted officials and ensure that justice is served in both the Vimal Negi case and the solar plant scandal. “An honest Chief Engineer lost his life. The least the government can do is ensure a fair investigation,” he concluded.
