Instead of politicizing the Teesa issue, the government should solve the problem: Satyawan Pundir

Reacting to the controversy surrounding the Teesa Hospital, the Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti and the Jan Swasthya Abhiyan Himachal Pradesh have termed it a debate taken in the wrong direction and said that such issues should not be given a political colour, but the government should fill the vacant posts in hospitals on a priority basis.
In a joint press release, the committee’s state president, Dr. Om Prakash Bhureta, and the state secretary and coordinator of the Public Health Campaign, Satyawan Pundir, stated that the lack of infrastructure in the state leads to such disputes, where the general public comes into direct conflict with service personnel. This makes it the government’s duty to make immediate appointments in priority sector departments to prevent such incidents from recurring.
State coordinator Satyawan Pundir stated that the health department’s infrastructure has deteriorated. Most health sub-centers in rural areas are closed due to a lack of staff. Similarly, many primary and community health centers lack doctors and paramedical staff, leaving people without access to healthcare. During the last assembly session, Bharmour MLA Dr. Janak Raj exposed the health department’s infrastructure, stating that 41 out of 42 health sub-centers in Bharmour have vacant health worker positions.
He said that out of 16 doctors, only 3 are working in Teesa Hospital, for whom it is not possible even on humanitarian grounds to provide proper treatment to the patients even after working for 24 to 36 hours.
Dr. Bhureta and Satyawan said that the Gyan Vigyan Samiti and the Jan Swasthya Abhiyan have demanded that the government fill vacant positions in the health department and other departments. They added that government representatives should also resolve such disputes through dialogue, and that diverting public attention will not yield any results.
