IGMC Shimla Shifts Super-Specialty OPDs to Chamiana’s Atal Institute

In a significant move to enhance medical services, the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, is set to relocate six of its super-specialty outpatient departments (OPDs) to the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties (AIMSS) at Chamiana. The transition will begin on December 23, 2024, following a directive from the Himachal Pradesh High Court.

The departments being shifted include Neurology, Endocrinology, Nephrology, Urology, Plastic Surgery, and Gastroenterology. This step is in compliance with a High Court order dated December 18, 2024, which called for a phased relocation of these specialized services.

An official notice issued on December 21, 2024, confirmed that these OPDs will now operate from the AIMSS facility in Chamiana, starting Monday, December 23. The move is part of a broader effort to streamline healthcare delivery and expand the scope of super-specialty services.

The Himachal Pradesh High Court, under Acting Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Justice Satyen Vaidya, approved the shift as a strategic measure to enhance patient care by utilizing the state-of-the-art infrastructure at AIMSS.

Patients seeking consultation in the aforementioned specialties are advised to visit the AIMSS facility in Chamiana from the specified date. The transition marks a significant step forward in improving accessibility and quality of super-specialty healthcare in the region.
