IGMC Assault Sparks Alarm: Jai Ram Thakur Says Himachal’s Health System on the Brink
Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur has raised sharp concerns after the recent assault at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, calling it a wake-up call for the government on the state’s crumbling healthcare system.
Thakur said ordinary people are paying the price for hospital chaos, overcrowding, lack of security, staff shortages, and administrative negligence, which he believes are fueling such incidents.
He urged the government to move beyond rhetoric and take concrete steps—from filling vacant posts and strengthening hospital security to ensuring uninterrupted supplies of medicines and equipment. He also stressed the need to make central schemes like Himcare and Ayushman Bharat reach the common man effectively.
Expressing deep worry, the former chief minister remarked that the health system has “completely collapsed”, leaving the public to bear the brunt of mismanagement. He called for sincere, urgent action to restore trust and improve facilities across the state.
