Horticulture officers trained on quality fruit production, management at Nauni University

A five-day training on enhancing the productivity of fruit crops was organized for the Subject Matter Specialists and Horticulture Development Officers of the State Horticulture Department. The training was organized by the Directorate of Extension Education, Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni.

Dr. Manica Tomar, Coordinator of the training informed that the focus of this training was to refresh the techniques of quality fruit production and management to enhance fruit productivity. The officers were briefed on canopy management, orchard management, high-density apple varieties and rootstocks, Integrated Nutrient Management, Role of Water Harvesting Structure, Disease and Pest Management. The trainees were taken to Krishi Vigyaan Kendra Solan for an exposure visit.

In the concluding session Director of Research, Dr Ravinder Sharma exhorted the trainees to come forward with the problems faced by them in the farmer’s fields so that proper scientific recommendations can be given to them. He added that the university will work in unison with the state horticulture department to double farmer’s income and mitigate the problems faced by them. Dr. Divender Gupta, Director of Extension Education encouraged the officers to reach out to the directorate through calls and Whatsapp so that training camps and farmers scientist interface can be organized and from time to time.

The Directorate recently organized two more training which were sponsored by the Department of Horticulture. The training were attended by Horticulture Extension Officers. Lectures on fruit productivity, crop weather insurance schemes with the retrieval of weather data, fruit breeding, water harvesting structures and their importance in fruit crops were given to trainees. The second training was held for facilitators and technical facilitators of the horticulture department. The trainings were coordinated by Dr. PK Baweja and Dr. Reshma Negi. Dr. Anil Sood (Joint Director Communication) and Dr. CL Thakur(Joint Director Training) also attended the trainings.
