Holiday Cheer on Rails: Special Toy Train to Shimla daily until February 28
With the holiday season drawing crowds to Shimla, one of India’s most beloved hill stations, Northern Railways has added a festive touch by launching a holiday special train on the heritage Kalka–Shimla track starting Monday.
The iconic toy train, cherished for its scenic journey through winding hills and pine-covered valleys, will run daily until February 28, 2026, giving tourists a chance to experience the magic of winter in the Himalayas.
According to the Ambala Division of Northern Railways, the train will feature seven coaches — including four general seating, a first-class composite, a tourist car, and a seating-cum-luggage rake — ensuring comfort for travelers eager to soak in the views.
The schedule is designed to make the ride both convenient and memorable:
- Departure from Kalka: 12:30 pm → Arrival in Shimla: 6:20 pm
- Departure from Shimla: 8:20 pm → Arrival in Kalka: 1:10 am
Along the way, the train will stop at Dharampur, Barog, Solan, and Kandaghat, offering glimpses of charming towns and breathtaking landscapes.
