Himachal’s New Dawn: Empowering Women, Protecting Children, Building Futures

Over the past three years, Himachal Pradesh has been quietly scripting a story of change. Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu says this transformation—called Vyavastha Parivartan—is about more than governance. It’s about empowering women, valuing the girl child, and ensuring no one is left behind.

One of the most heartening signs of progress is the rise in the child sex ratio, from 947 to 964. This improvement reflects the state’s sustained efforts to protect and celebrate daughters, laying the foundation for deeper reforms.

Among the landmark initiatives is the Indira Gandhi Sukh Suraksha Yojna, which secures the future of girls born in Below Poverty Line families. With ₹25,000 deposited at birth and life insurance coverage of ₹2 lakh for both parents, the scheme ensures financial stability until the girl turns 18—or even up to 27. Strengthening the existing Beti Hai Anmol Yojana, it sends a clear message: every girl matters.

To support working women, the government is investing ₹132 crore in building 13 new hostels across districts like Solan, Palampur, Baddi, Gagret, and Nagrota Bagwan. These safe, affordable accommodations will allow women to step into the workforce with confidence.

Education is another pillar of change. All 18,925 Anganwadi Centres are being upgraded into ‘Anganwadi Sah’ Preschools, offering play-based learning for children aged 3 to 6. With trained Anganwadi workers, the state is ensuring every child begins life with a strong educational foundation.

The Sukh Aashray Yojna stands out as a beacon of compassion. By taking full responsibility for the upbringing, education, and livelihood of orphaned children and destitute women, the state is ensuring dignity and self-reliance for its most vulnerable citizens.

“These forward-thinking measures reflect our unwavering commitment to inclusive growth and social welfare,” Sukhu said. “This is not just governance—it is Vyavastha Parivartan, a transformation that empowers every citizen, especially our women, to stand tall with dignity and independence.”
