Himachal’s farmers Reap the Rewards of Natural Farming : Govt to procure Barley @60 Rs per Kg
In a heartening move for farmers across Himachal Pradesh, the state government has announced that barley grown through natural farming will now be purchased at ₹60 per kilogram—a first for the region. Starting October 8, this initiative promises not just better prices, but a renewed sense of dignity for those who nurture the land.
The remote valley of Pangi is witnessing a transformation, with five procurement centers already set up and 80 farmers registered to benefit. The Agriculture Department is ready, and the message is clear: natural farming is no longer just sustainable—it’s profitable.
This isn’t the only win. Wheat grown naturally has already been procured from 838 farmers, totaling over 2,100 quintals. The produce is now being sold under the ‘Him-Bhog’ brand, offering consumers chemical-free flour and porridge, while farmers have received ₹1.27 crore in payments, plus transport subsidies.
The government’s support doesn’t stop at wheat and barley. Minimum Support Prices have been set for maize (₹40/kg), raw turmeric (₹90/kg), and more—ensuring that farmers who choose the natural path aren’t left behind.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized the broader vision: strengthening the rural economy and putting money directly into farmers’ hands. New schemes like the Milk Incentive and Transport Subsidy are already rolling out in Solan’s Arki constituency, offering ₹3 per liter to both cooperative and private milk producers.
This is more than policy—it’s a promise. A promise that those who feed the nation will be fed with respect, fair prices, and a future worth farming for.
