Himachal’s Dry November: Foggy Roads, Frozen Streams, and Farmers on Edge
November is ending in Himachal Pradesh without a single spell of rain or snowfall. The Meteorological Department says the dry streak will continue until December 2, leaving the state shivering under a cold wave despite clear skies.
Fog Alert for Bilaspur and Mandi
The Shimla weather office has issued a warning for dense fog on November 27 and 28. Bhakra Dam in Bilaspur and parts of Balh Valley in Mandi are expected to be covered in thick fog, raising concerns for commuters and residents.
Frozen Water, Risky Roads
In the upper regions, streams and waterfalls are freezing, disrupting drinking water supplies. Roads too are turning treacherous with black ice, making travel dangerous. Authorities have urged drivers to move cautiously to avoid accidents.
Farmers and Orchardists Struggle
The lack of rain and snow has left fields bone‑dry, preventing farmers from sowing wheat and other rabi crops. Orchardists are also suffering, as snowfall is crucial for their produce. The prolonged dry spell is hitting the rural economy hard.
Mercury Plunges Below Zero
Temperatures have dropped sharply, with Tabo recording the coldest at –6.8°C and Kukumseri at –4.5°C. From Shimla to Manali, towns across Himachal are reporting chilling lows, underscoring the severity of this dry winter spell.
