Himachal to phase out contract hiring: A new approach of job trainee being introduced
In a landmark move to boost transparency and professionalism, the Himachal Pradesh government is phasing out its long-standing contract system for government jobs. Instead, a fresh approach is being introduced—one that focuses on structured training and merit-based recruitment for Group-A, B, and C positions across departments.
This decision comes after months of thoughtful planning and discussions aimed at building a more accountable and skilled public workforce. Officials say the new system will prioritize open competitive exams, followed by a trainee period where selected candidates will receive hands-on training and mentorship tailored to their roles.
“The goal is to create a more professional and transparent administrative setup,” a government spokesperson explained. “By replacing ad-hoc contracts with structured trainee appointments, we’re ensuring that new recruits are better prepared and more committed to public service.”
The change is expected to bring long-term benefits—strengthening governance, improving service delivery, and giving young professionals a clear, secure path into government roles. It also addresses long-standing concerns about the lack of job security and transparency in the previous contract system.
Implementation guidelines are expected soon, with departments gearing up to roll out the new scheme in the coming months.
