Himachal to go for six assembly bye and four Lok Sabha elections on June 1

 Himachal Pradesh would go for six assembly bye-elections and four Lok Sabha elections on June 1 in the seventh and last phase of the general election announced by the Election Commission of India today.

Six disqualified MLAs who were recently disqualified by the speaker of the state legislature assembly Kuldeep Singh Pathania would have to face by election as ECI decided to conduct a bye-election on June 1 in 26 assembly vacant seats including six vacant seats of Himachal Pradesh. Assembly seats included Dharmshala, Sujanpur, Badsar, Gagret, Kutlehr, and Lahaul Spiti.

For the six bye-elections and four Parliamentary seats notification will be issued on May 7, 2024.

Mandi parliamentary and Lahaul Spiti currently are affected by the snowfall and the election couldn’t be held in the first phase there including Himachal Pradesh Punjab Haryana and other North Western states election ECI decided to place it in 7th phase, The chief election commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced today.

Himachal Pradesh has four parliaments and Mandi LS is the second largest parliament area including tribal constituencies including Lahaul Spiti, Bharmour Pangi and Rampur, and Kinnaur.

There are Mandi, Shimla(reserved SC), Hamirpur, and Kangra parliamentary. Each paramilitary includes 17 assembly segments in the state. Currently, the BJP has three parliaments and Congress one. In the 68 assembly, Congress has 34 assemblies BJP 25, and Three independent. Six seats fell vacant on February 29 as the speaker disqualified six Congress MLAs for defying the Congress party whip and abstaining from the house during the budget session. Now ECI also announced today that including 26 vacant assembly seats in the country election would be held on June 1 simultaneously with four Lok Sabha Election.
