Himachal Speeds Up Land Mutation Process to Reduce Long Waits for Citizens
In a move aimed at easing the lives of people dealing with land-related paperwork, the Himachal Pradesh government has instructed the Revenue Department to process land mutation applications more frequently. Until now, these cases were taken up only once a month, often leaving applicants waiting far longer than necessary.
The new directive requires officials to handle mutation work two to three times every month. Even though the state has digitised its revenue records and offers online services for land registration and mutation, many people still prefer submitting their documents physically. To accommodate them, the government has asked Patwaris, Kanungos, and Tehsildars to set fixed dates each month dedicated exclusively to mutation work.
On these scheduled days, applicants will visit their Patwar circles, where Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars will complete the process. Typically, after land registration, applicants must file a separate request for mutation. The Patwari records the registration details, the Patwari and Kanungo verify and sign the entry, and finally, the Tehsildar or Naib Tehsildar approves the mutation.
Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi explained that while the system is largely digital, many citizens still rely on traditional paperwork. To ensure that no one faces unnecessary delays, the government has made it mandatory to process mutation cases multiple times each month.
