Himachal Sizzles Under Heatwave, Tourists Flocking to Hill Stations for Respite

Himachal Pradesh is reeling under a scorching heatwave with temperatures soaring past 42 degrees Celsius in some parts of the state. The weather department has issued warnings of heatwave conditions for the next few days.

Neri in Hamirpur district recorded the highest temperature of 42.9 degrees Celsius on Friday. Several other stations, including Una, Dhaulakuna, and Bilaspur, also witnessed scorching heat with temperatures hovering around 42 degrees Celsius.

The heatwave has led to a surge in tourist footfall in Shimla, Manali, and Dalhousie, as people seek refuge from the sweltering plains. Shimla, the popular hill station, recorded its warmest day of the season so far with a maximum temperature of 28.7 degrees Celsius, which is 3.7 degrees above normal.

The heatwave has also caused some disruptions. A fire broke out in a cowshed in Jogindernagar on Friday morning, injuring a person while rescuing cattle.

However, there is some hope for respite in sight. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rain or snow at some places in the state from May 18 to 21, which could bring some relief from the scorching heat.
