Manali Shivers: Snowfall, Sub-Zero Temperatures, and Rescue Operations Amid Cold Wave
Himachal Pradesh is in the grip of an intense cold wave following fresh spells of rain and snowfall, sending temperatures plummeting across the state. The recent snowfall has transformed the region into a winter wonderland, with Kothi recording 9.45 inches of snow, Manali 5.83 inches, and Gondla 4.33 inches. Meanwhile, moderate rainfall was reported in Seobagh (0.32 inches), Bhuntar (0.28 inches), and Gohar (0.24 inches).
Bone-Chilling Temperatures Across the State
The mercury has plunged dramatically, with Taboo registering the coldest temperature at a freezing minus 13.5°C. Kukumseri followed closely at minus 12.2°C, while Kalpa recorded minus 6.2°C. Other regions also felt the icy grip, including Dalhousie at 0.4°C, Kullu (Bhuntar) at -0.2°C, Shimla at 2.8°C, and Una at 1.4°C. Dense Fog Hampers Travel
Dense fog in Sundernagar and Mandi has reduced visibility to just 100 meters, posing challenges for commuters. Travelers are advised to proceed with caution as foggy conditions persist in the early mornings, particularly in low-lying areas.
Weather Outlook and Warnings
The weather is expected to remain mostly dry over the next 24 hours, with isolated rain or snow in the higher altitudes. However, the cold wave warning remains in effect, urging residents to stay prepared and limit outdoor activities during foggy conditions.
Heroic Rescue in Lahaul Spiti
Amid the harsh weather, a rescue operation in Lahaul Spiti demonstrated the commitment of local authorities. Police personnel from the Koksar outpost successfully rescued two individuals stranded in their vehicle near Ropsang Nala during the night.
As Himachal braces for continued cold, residents are encouraged to stay warm, exercise caution during travel, and enjoy the picturesque snowy landscapes responsibly.
