Himachal Pradesh Gears Up for Crucial Monsoon Assembly Session
The monsoon session of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly is set to commence on Monday, August 18, 2025, at 2:00 PM, and will run until September 2, 2025. Marking the ninth session of the fourteenth Legislative Assembly, this session will feature 12 sittings, making it the fourth-longest monsoon session in the state’s history.
A Look Back at Past Sessions
Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania, while addressing a press conference at the Legislative Assembly Secretariat, reflected on previous sessions. He noted that the longest monsoon sessions were held in:
- 1962 (1st Assembly): 13 sittings
- 1968 (2nd Assembly): 15 sittings
- 2009 (11th Assembly): 17 sittings
With 73 sittings already completed in the current Assembly’s eight sessions, the upcoming session will bring the total to 85 sittings.
Key Agenda and Discussions
The first day will be dedicated to condolence motions, paying respects to departed leaders and citizens. August 21 and 28 have been earmarked for non-official member business, allowing legislators to raise public concerns. Members have until August 18 to submit their agenda items to the Secretariat.
Priority Issues: From Disasters to Development
Lawmakers have submitted 830 questions—679 starred (requiring oral answers) and 151 unstarred (written replies)—covering pressing issues such as:
- Natural disaster recovery (floods, rehabilitation)
- Education reforms (school mergers)
- Infrastructure projects (road and bridge construction)
- Employment (filling vacant posts)
- Youth welfare (combating drug abuse)
- Employee dues (pending payments)
Additionally, members have filed 10 notices under Rule 62, 6 under Rule 101, and 12 under Rule 130, ensuring robust debate on these critical matters.

To foster cooperation, an all-party meeting will be held on August 18 at noon, attended by:

- Leader of the Opposition
- Government’s Deputy Chief Whip
