Himachal Police Strikes 121 Spots in a Massive Anti-Drug Crackdown

In a sweeping show of resolve, Himachal Pradesh Police carried out one of its largest-ever anti-drug operations on Saturday, striking 121 locations across all 13 districts in a single day. The coordinated raids, planned in secrecy and backed by digital surveillance, mark a decisive step in the state’s fight against the growing menace of chitta and other narcotics.

A Statewide Sweep

  • Kangra: The biggest haul came from Dehra, where police seized 3.5 kg of charas and cash linked to the drug trade.
  • Nurpur & Chamba: Multiple raids recovered over 10 grams of chitta, exposing local supply chains.
  • Baddi (industrial belt): Officers uncovered a country-made pistol, 243 grams of charas, and 87 grams of opium, pointing to a nexus of drugs and illegal arms.
  • Una & Bilaspur: Surprise inspections led to the recovery of 783 grams of poppy husk and equipment used for retail-level distribution.
  • Kullu, Mandi, Hamirpur, Solan, Sirmaur, and even Lahaul–Spiti saw smaller but significant seizures, proving no corner of the state is untouched.

The Bigger Picture

Police confirmed that 18 suspects fled before the raids, but their identities are known and search teams are closing in. Senior officers described the crackdown as “only the beginning” of a sustained campaign to dismantle every link in the narcotics chain.

A Call to Citizens

Officials stressed that public cooperation is vital. Confidential tip-offs from locals can help protect Himachal’s youth and break the web of drug trafficking that has plagued communities for years.

Why It Matters

This operation comes just days after Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu reaffirmed that making Himachal “chitta-free” is not a slogan but a commitment. Saturday’s dawn raids show that the fight against drugs is being waged on the ground with unprecedented intensity.
