Hundreds of Farmers and laborers protest under the joint banner of CITU & Kissan Sabha in front of Sunni Dam

Hundreds of Farmers and Labourers belonging to CITU and Himachal Pradesh Kissan Sabha held a joint protest in front of the Sunni Dam in the Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh on Thursday.

The protest was also attended by former CPIM MLA Rakesh Singha and Himachal Pradesh Kissan Sabha leader Dr Kuldeep Singh Tanwar.

The farmers and laborers are demanding thirteen demands of the farmers and ten of the laborers in the Sunni Dam Hydro Project. 

 Farmers and laborers camped outside Ritvik Company office from morning till evening.  The movement ended only after the reinstatement of eight workers who were illegally fired from their jobs. 

 Kisan Sabha and CITU have warned that if the demands of farmers and laborers are not fulfilled soon, the movement will intensify.

 A dozen speakers addressed the rally, including Rakesh Singha, Vijendra Mehra, Kundan Lal Sharma, Bhimi Ram Sharma, Amit Kumar, Kuldeep Singh Tanwar, and Kuldeep Dogra. 

 Rakesh Singha said that the rights of the affected farmers and the labor laws of the workers are being openly violated in the Sunni Dam Hydro Project. 

 Farmers have not been given proper compensation for the land.  The land has not been given in exchange for land.  Dumping is being done in Lunsu despite public opposition.  

Even dust allowance is not being given.  Local people are not being given employment. 

 Workers in the project are being paid less than the minimum wage.  Laborers are being made to work 18 hours a day.  

They are not being given tunnel pay, holiday pay, overtime pay.  They are not given safety equipment like gloves, shoes, helmets, masks, etc.  

Workers are not being paid salaries for several months.  There is no record of his EPF.  They do not have proper facilities for accommodation, food, mess, canteen, toilets, bathrooms, transport facilities, holidays, registration under the Labor Welfare Board, etc.  

The workers have been crammed like animals in containers instead of proper accommodation.  

Dozens of laborers are being forced to live in each container.  They are not being given a salary as per the category.  Despite making them work 12 hours a day, they are being paid less than the minimum wage.
