He said that  being a third-generation lawyer,  his professional success and his chair are as much a result of the accident of birth as his hard work.  He appreciated the dedication and impeccable sense of duty, of all the people  discharging their  duties, be it his staff or the traffic police, on his way from his residence  to High Court.
He also showed concern for the pitiable condition of the people sleeping on the freezing pavement near Old Bus Stand, on his way to office and said  that the myriad of  inequalities pervasive in our society keeps the judiciary from being the supreme guardian of individual rights and the perfect overseer of the rule of law that the writers of our constitution had hoped it would be.  He also appreciated the young lawyers for their exuberance and eagerness to learn.
