Himachal has always been given priority under PM Modi’s leadership; the central government has supported the state during times of disaster: Dhumal

Hamirpur, BJP State Media Coordinator Karan Nanda paid a courtesy visit to former Chief Minister and former State President Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal at his private residence.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Himachal Pradesh has always been prioritized. In a meeting chaired by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah in July, it was noted that the frequency and intensity of cloudbursts, flash floods, landslides, and torrential rainfall in Himachal Pradesh had increased, leading to widespread loss of life, damage to infrastructure and livelihoods, and environmental degradation in the state. Union Home Minister Amit Shah immediately ordered the formation of a multi-sectoral central team comprising experts from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) Roorkee, the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) Pune, geologists, and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore. Furthermore, in light of the floods, flash floods, and landslides expected during the 2025 southwest monsoon season in various parts of Himachal Pradesh, the central government has already dispatched an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) to directly assess the damage, without waiting for a memorandum from the Prime Minister. This inter-ministerial central team visited the affected areas of the state from July 18-21, 2025. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government stands firmly with the states during disasters, without any discrimination. In this regard, a high-level committee chaired by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has already approved an outlay of ₹2006.40 crore for Himachal Pradesh for rehabilitation and reconstruction in areas affected by disasters such as floods, landslides, and cloudbursts for the year 2023, and released the first installment of ₹451.44 crore on July 7, 2025. Furthermore, to assist the affected people of the state, the central government has already released the first installment of the central share of ₹198.80 crore to Himachal Pradesh from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) on June 18, 2025, for immediate relief measures. The central government has also provided all necessary logistical support to all states, including Himachal Pradesh, including the deployment of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, Army teams, and the Air Force. A total of 13 NDRF teams are deployed in the state for rescue and relief operations.

He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Himachal Pradesh on September 9, 2025 to review the flood situation and damage caused by cloudburst, rain and landslides in the affected areas of Himachal Pradesh.

The Prime Minister first conducted an aerial survey of Chamba, Bharmour, Kangra, and other affected areas in Himachal Pradesh. Subsequently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an official meeting in Kangra to review relief and rehabilitation efforts and assess the damage in Himachal Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced financial assistance of ₹1,500 crore for Himachal Pradesh. The second installment of the SDRF and the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi was released in advance, and the funds have already been credited to the accounts of farmers in Himachal Pradesh. At the time, the Prime Minister called for a multi-pronged approach to restore normalcy for the entire region and its people. This will be achieved through the reconstruction of homes through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the renovation of national highways, the reconstruction of schools, and the provision of relief under the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, including mini-kits for livestock.

Former Chief Minister Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal also listened to the live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat programme.
