Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti Holds State-Level Meeting on De-Addiction Campaign
A state-level meeting was convened in Shimla to discuss material preparation for the de-addiction campaign run by the Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti. During this meeting, a committee was established under the leadership of Sumitra Chandel, with Gianand Sharma, Urmil Thakur, Dr. Reena Singh, Bhumit Thakur, and Yashvinder Dogra as members.
The attendees agreed to develop materials tailored for various target groups, keeping in mind the campaign’s progress and resource mobilization. Key topics such as supply and demand reduction, treatment and rehabilitation arrangements, and policy-level interventions were discussed. The meeting also highlighted concerns that the current approach blames, stigmatizes, and criminalizes youth, which is detrimental to building a healthy society.
Furthermore, a Shimla District Committee meeting decided that on International Youth Day, August 12, a youth dialogue will be held. On International Literacy Day, September 8, a convention will be organized in Shimla in partnership with various government and non-government institutions to review de-addiction efforts and strategize future actions.
The Gyan Vigyan Samiti plans to create resource groups at the state level for research, media campaigns, cultural initiatives, and legal aspects to expand the campaign’s reach.
The meeting saw the presence of BGVS National General Secretary Dr. O.P. Bhureta, State Secretary Satyawan Pundir, Shiv Singh Chandel, State Resource Center President Dr. Kuldeep Tanwar, Sunil Vashishth, District Secretary Naveen Sharma, among others.
