Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti celebrated 35th foundation day

The Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti celebrated its 35th foundation day. On this occasion, issues such as literacy, education, the environment, women’s empowerment, and health were discussed. Particular concern was expressed about the growing drug menace in the state.
Presiding over the program, Komal Srivastava, National President of the Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti, said that the Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti faces significant challenges in today’s times. There was a time when the government and administration listened to and accepted the suggestions of public organizations, but today, they are ignoring and disregarding the voice of the public and implementing only those suggestions.
Founding President Dr. Kuldeep Singh Tanwar said that the responsibility of the Knowledge Science Movement is even greater at a time when unscientific, illogical, and conservative thinking is being promoted. Caste-based oppression has increased. Due to climate change, floods and heavy rainfall have become annual problems in the state.
Committee Secretary Satyawan Pundir said, “We are proud that the state has become fully literate, but with the ongoing efforts to close schools and implement a new education policy, girls, the underprivileged, and the backward classes will once again be deprived of education. Pundir said that even if they are not illiterate, their education will certainly remain incomplete.”
He said that out of the 36 percent literacy rate that increased from 1990 to 2025, literacy increased by only one percent between 2018 and 2025. Literacy committees, knowledge science committees, state resource centers, and millions of volunteer workers have contributed to the 35 percent literacy rate.
The Committee regretted that this achievement was due to the contribution of lakhs of Akshar Sainiks, artists, writers, intellectuals and readers who created an environment for the literacy campaign, wrote songs, plays and slogans, and taught the illiterate for months without any greed or financial avarice.
On this occasion, the committee’s national secretary Dr. Om Prakash Bhureta, Samata’s national convenor Sumitra Chandel, state vice president Gianand Sharma, vice president Virendra Kapoor, co-secretary Sitaram Thakur, Joginder Singh Chauhan, former Solan district president Dr. T.D. Verma, district Solan president B.S. Panwar, Gulab Singh Namdhari, Urmil Thakur along with senior and young workers participated.
