Himachal Government Revokes Termination Order of IGMC Shimla Doctor Raghav Narula
The Himachal Pradesh government has revoked the order terminating the services of Dr. Raghav Narula, Senior Resident Doctor at IGMC Shimla (Indira Gandhi Medical College & Hospital). This decision was taken in an official order issued by the Department of Health and Family Welfare on January 9, 2026.
According to the order, Dr. Narula had been suspended on December 22, 2025, following a dispute between him and a patient, and his services were later terminated. To re-examine the matter, an independent committee was formed, which submitted its report on January 2, 2026. The committee found that the incident was the result of a sudden argument between both parties and was an isolated case.
The committee also noted that while Dr. Narula had made an error in judgment, he offered an unconditional apology and expressed regret. Furthermore, no prior complaints had been registered against him. Based on the report, the government reviewed the disciplinary action and cancelled his dismissal. However, the order also made it clear that strict action would be taken in the future against any such incidents. The medical community welcomed the decision, calling it fair, sensitive, and balanced.
It may be recalled that on December 22, a heated argument broke out between resident doctor Raghav Narula and patient Arjun at IGMC Shimla, which escalated into a physical fight. A video of the scuffle went viral, leading to Dr. Narula’s suspension, and later, his termination as the matter gained traction. Angered by the decision, doctors went on strike.
Doctors and medical associations across the state supported Dr. Narula and demanded that the Sukhu government revoke his dismissal. The incident at IGMC made headlines across the country. Later, Dr. Narula and patient Arjun Panwar appeared before the media and reconciled, bringing the matter to a close.
