Himachal gets a brief break, But more rain is on the way – Yellow alert in four districts

Residents of Himachal Pradesh are finally seeing some clearer skies after a week of relentless rain. However, the break is expected to be short-lived.

The Indian Meteorological Center in Shimla has issued a fresh yellow alert, specifically for the districts of Mandi, Hamirpur, Kangra, and Bilaspur. They are predicting rainfall at isolated places within the next 12 hours. With this in mind, the IMD is advising people to drive with extra caution, as visibility could be significantly reduced on the roads.

Looking ahead, a broader yellow alert for rainfall is in effect for the entire state from September 12 to 14. During this period, we can expect moderate to heavy showers in some areas.

There is some positive news for travel: after several days of disruption, traffic has been restored on the crucial Kiratpur-Manali National Highway. In another welcome development, the Bharmour-Chamba road is now open for small vehicles.

In further relief, the water levels in the state’s major dams have begun to recede as of Wednesday.
