Himachal Congress Races Against Time to Rebuild Grassroots Strength Ahead of Panchayat Polls
With Panchayati Raj elections fast approaching, the Himachal Pradesh Congress finds itself in a sprint to recover lost ground. Delays in setting up its organisational framework had slowed early preparations, but the release of the reservation roster has jolted the party into full election mode. With polls scheduled before May 31, the countdown has begun.
HPCC President Vinay Kumar has directed office-bearers to step into the field and strengthen the party’s presence at the booth level. Committees are being formed across polling booths to ensure better coordination and direct outreach to voters. Kumar emphasized that Panchayat elections are not just about local governance—they are a litmus test of the party’s organisational strength after months of delay.
Leaders have been instructed to revive inactive units, hold regular constituency meetings, and reconnect with workers. To deepen its reach in rural areas, the Congress is launching a door-to-door campaign, tasking workers with engaging voters and spreading awareness about government schemes and development initiatives.
The leadership has acknowledged that organisational gaps impacted momentum, but insists that the entire setup—from district units to booth-level committees—will be completed before the elections. Appointments of district presidents, executive members, and block presidents are being fast-tracked to avoid further setbacks.
As the clock ticks down, the upcoming Panchayat elections will test not only the Congress’s electoral strength but also its ability to mobilize effectively at the village level and overcome the challenges of late preparation.
