Himachal Breathes Easy as Monsoon Slows Down : Relief Ahead for Rain

After days of relentless downpours that threw life off balance across Himachal Pradesh, the monsoon is finally easing up. Starting today, the pace of rainfall has slowed, bringing much-needed relief to residents. The Meteorological Department has predicted a break from heavy rains for the next six days, with only light to moderate showers expected in select areas.

This shift in weather comes as a welcome change for communities that have been grappling with flooding, landslides, and disrupted routines.

What to Expect in the Coming Days

  • Sept 15–18: Light to moderate rain may occur in the plains and mid-hill regions. High-altitude areas could see isolated light showers.
  • Sept 19: Similar patterns continue, with scattered light to moderate rain in lower regions and minimal rainfall in higher altitudes.
  • Sept 20: Light rain is likely in some parts of the plains and mid-hills, while the high-altitude regions are expected to enjoy clear skies.

Rainfall Surges Beyond Normal Across All Districts

Despite the recent slowdown, September has already seen record-breaking rainfall across Himachal. From September 1 to 14, the state received 166.6 mm of rain, a whopping 129% above the normal average.

Here’s how some districts fared:

  • Bilaspur: 257.8 mm (232% above normal)
  • Hamirpur: 251.7 mm (214% above normal)
  • Solan: 382.8 mm (230% above normal)
  • Shimla: 212 mm (213% above normal)
  • Kullu: 216.2 mm (306% above normal)
  • Lahaul-Spiti: 101.7 mm (134% above normal)
  • Mandi: 295.3 mm (209% above normal)
  • Sirmaur: 281.4 mm (137% above normal)
  • Una: 149.6 mm (57% above normal)
  • Kangra, Chamba, Kinnaur also saw significant increases.

With the skies calming down, locals can finally look forward to a breather — and perhaps a chance to dry out, reset, and resume normal life.
