Himachal Braces for More Snow : Government takes Urgent Steps to Keep Communities Safe

[Shimla, January 26] As many across Himachal Pradesh are still digging out from recent heavy snow, the state government has issued a new, urgent warning. A fresh bout of severe winter weather is expected to hit the state from today through January 28th, threatening more disruptions for residents and travelers.

Based on forecasts from the India Meteorological Department, officials warn that intense snowfall and rain could worsen conditions in already snow-bound areas. This raises serious concerns about blocked roads, potential power cuts, and the breakdown of essential services.

In response, the government is taking immediate action to protect communities. All district administrations have been ordered to keep their emergency operation centers open 24/7 for constant monitoring. Authorities are urgently reviewing evacuation plans, especially for the most vulnerable areas, and will be issuing clear warnings to residents, daily commuters, and tourists.

Key agencies are on high alert:

· The Public Works Department is preparing snow-clearing machines to tackle road closures and restore vital connections as quickly as possible.
· Emergency repair teams are standing by to fix any damage to roads and infrastructure.
· The State Electricity Board has crews ready to respond to power outages and is securing backup power for critical services.
· The Jal Shakti Department is working to ensure water and sanitation services remain uninterrupted, even in the hardest-hit areas.

To ensure public safety, the Police and Tourism Departments will be managing traffic on dangerous routes, advising against travel to risky areas, and working with transport services to help everyone stay safe during this challenging weather.
