Himachal Battles Nature’s Fury: Landslides, Floods, and Heavy Rains Wreak Havoc
Himachal Pradesh is grappling with widespread destruction as relentless heavy rains continue to lash the region, triggering landslides, rising river levels, and glacier falls. Authorities have issued high-alert warnings across multiple districts as the situation remains critical.
In Chhota Bhangal’s Luai Panchayat (Baijnath Sub-Division, Kangra district), a cloudburst has unleashed chaos, flooding lower-lying areas with a sudden surge of water and debris. Homes, a hospital, and infrastructure have been severely impacted, while four vehicles sustained heavy damage. Relief teams have been deployed to assess the situation and provide necessary assistance.
Dharamshala is among the worst-hit areas, with the relentless downpour causing a dangerous surge in Manuni Khad’s water levels. In Khaniyara, floodwaters swept away three tippers and a JCB, while overflowing drains and ravines have put residents in peril. Authorities have urged those living near rivers and streams to relocate to safer areas until conditions improve.
Meanwhile, in Manjhi Khad near Gaggal, a Poklane machine involved in the construction of an IT Park bridge was trapped in floodwaters following unexpected rapid water surges, leaving work at a standstill.
The hill town of Manali is facing a separate crisis due to snowfall-induced tree falls, which have damaged infrastructure. A massive deodar tree collapsed onto the historic Mata Hidimba Temple, damaging its roof. In Ward No. 1, two giant trees fell onto Jupiter Hotel, prompting the evacuation of tourists. While no casualties were reported, four parked tourist vehicles were destroyed, and another car’s glass shattered.
In another incident near Hotel Singar, a falling tree damaged a house and two vehicles, while another near the Beas Bridge narrowly avoided causing injuries.
With rivers swelling, roads blocked, and property damaged, the state administration has placed Himachal Pradesh on high alert. Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow safety advisories.
Rescue operations are underway in all affected regions, with officials closely monitoring the situation as the state braces for further challenges from nature’s wrath.
