Himachal Assembly Winter Session to start on 26 November : 744 Questions, Eight Sittings
The Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly is gearing up for its Winter Session at Tapovan in Dharamshala, starting November 26 and running until December 5. Over eight sittings, legislators will tackle a whopping 744 questions — a sign of the busy agenda ahead.
The opening day will begin on a solemn note, with tributes to martyrs and condolences for former MLA Babu Ram Gautam. Later, November 28 and December 4 have been set aside for non-official business, giving members space to raise issues close to their constituencies.
Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania revealed that the House Secretariat has already received 604 starred and 140 unstarred questions online, all forwarded to the government. In addition, lawmakers have filed notices under various rules, ensuring a packed schedule of debates and discussions.
Key concerns expected to dominate the floor include:
- Disaster relief and flood assistance
- Impact of heavy rains and natural calamities
- School mergers and education upgrades
- Road and bridge construction projects
- Healthcare improvements and filling vacant posts
- Tourism and horticulture challenges
- Drinking water supply issues
- Rising drug abuse among youth
- Crime and transportation concerns
With eight sittings in this session, the Assembly will wrap up the year with a total of 35 sittings — 15 in the budget session, 12 in the monsoon session, and now 8 in winter.
To ensure smooth proceedings, leaders from both ruling and opposition parties will meet before the session begins. Pathania has urged cooperation across the aisle so that the Assembly’s time is spent on meaningful discussions and decisions that serve the public interest.
